EXPO 86 "The World's Fair"
(Originally named TRANSPO 86)
The World's Exposition on Transportation and Communication opened on May 2nd 1986. (I remember that day because it was my 8th birthday party and the Snowbirds flew over my house)
The event coincided with Vancouver's centennial birthday on the shores of False Creek which was also known as "CPR Wasteland" - which is now Yaletown.
The fair was opened by Prince Charles and Princess Diana and PM Brian Mulroney.
The Skytrain was then the modern commuter train that went from Vancouver to Surrey (I remember taking the train along the full line and back for the first time).
